The Spinoff Confuses Me

Image
Over the past few years, I have occasionally gone over to the website, "The Spinoff" and nearly every time the website has left me in a state of confusion, when normally I am in a state of denial. The website seems to read like it's coming from the old "Social Credit" party manifesto, but that isn't what confuses me, I guess the easiest way to explain is to give examples. Take the Horrific Christchurch shooting, my old home town  acted with grace and dignity and an outpouring of love and support for the victims and their community, as they should. Writers from the spinoff, wrote the same, beautiful pieces of how we should come together and support each other. But the same writers, had totally different opinions of other Terror attacks around the world, they had previously written on their own blogs and social media, that no sympathy should be given because of  a country's  foreign policy and that it was somehow racist to give thoughts to that country and...

NOT A SECRET SOCIETY

Image
The picture above doesn't show a Secret Society, it doesn't show people who are part of an exclusive club that has been around for 100's of years. There is not going to be a Line of Duty type investigation into these boys, there won't be a movie made into their life's, none of the people pictured are special. There is no wild antics that  they do, that will be talked about for centuries. They wont become Prime Minister. They're nothing like the Masons, the police aren't debating should they arrest them or not because who their daddies are. Yet the New Zealand Media once again get it wrong, by dramatizing their behavior and giving it a cute nickname, leading people to believe, "Wow is this like Billionaire Boys club", or that English movie which shows the Elite acting badly" Please tell us More!!!! Well quite Frankly Hamish  McNeilly of Stuff's website should be ashamed for not doing any real reporting. This group of kids, reminds me of the...

Love Each Other

Image
This is how you  react to a Terrorist attack, you show love and kindness. You love one and another. You show compassion, even though the attack may be on a group your not familiar  with or have nothing to do with, you show people that we're all  one race the human race. It just fills my heart what my old home town is doing, and once again it's standing up to a horrific terrible event. Since 9/11 the reaction hasn't always been like this, From New York to Bali, to London to Paris,  to Norway to Switzerland,   Al qaeda to ISIS, from Right wing  racist skinhead scum to  Religious extremists,  when there's been a horrible attack, people's reaction to those attacks haven't always been the best. From Islamophobic comments to the "What about Iraq"  comments. From "Why are you giving sympathy to these people with all the wars they have caused" comments,   to "Hey you showed sympathy to them why not this attack" comments" From people wh...

My Problem with Social Media Videos

Image
I have a huge problem with Social Media videos, like the one that Erina Wehi posted, you just don't get the full story.  You get a horrific allegation against another party without the full story or even proof of those allegations. You then get people on  twitter and facebook, destorying a person's life.  They get  abuse, they get death threats, they get  their whole life judge by a 90  second video, that may of been heavily edited. I watched today's video, and while I firmly believe this type of racism  and ugliness is firmly entrenced in New Zealand's socity, I beleieve we aren't getting the whole picture of the video posted today I haven't link to the video, because I dont want it to get more hits, a quick google search of Erina Wehi and you will come to it. In the video she sits calmly in her car,  and retells an incident when she alleges this man cut her off and screamed out all sort of repugnant racial abuse. She then tells the viewer, that ...

Taranaki Mountain Airs Versus Supercity Rangers Allegations.

Image
First off, let me state, I'm just a basketball fan, I have no connection to any NBL team, player or coach. I'm originally from Canterbury and now living in Nelson, so of course I support the Giants and the Rams. I have a niece who was a member of the 2016 Junior Tall Ferns who plays in NCAA D1. That's my  sole connection to anyone invovled in Basketball New Zealand. IMHO the allegations of match fixing  between Taranaki and the Rangers are not cemented in reality. For the following reasons, players on a Jeff Green coached team would die for him on court, the passion and pride he has shown for every team he has coached is beyond belief.  If he had any sense that a player was trying to match fix, he would be the first to report it. Trent Adam's team has had a hard season thru injuries, he's coaching the last game of the season, the game is virtually over, but the other team calls a timeout, then hits a last second three, to win by double digits, well Trent of course i...

The New Zealand Rugby Fan and Media: Hypocritical Ugly and Outright Wrong

Image
There has never been  in the History of sport, a group of people who have been so Hypocritical, thinned skinned, precious, ugly and outright wrong. I'm of course talking about the New Zealand Rugby media and the New Zealand Rugby Fan. It's been a life time for me, of verbal and sometimes Physical abuse from Rugby fans, if you dare say anything less than  "The All Blacks  (All Blacks is the nickname of the New Zealand rugby team) are the greatest athlete's on Earth, all hell breaks loose. Started when I was six, and a teacher told us, that we could play Soccer, Rounders or Rugby.  As we were leaving the class room, a friend, said he was going to play  Soccer, I told him I was going to play Rounders, a kid came from behind, threw me to the ground and screamed "RUGBY!!!!!!"  then spat at me. This blog post would be a War and Peace novel if I listed all the similar incidents thru out my life. The mere mention that you like another sport other than Rugby has the...

Tall Ferns Beat Malaysia

Image
What a way to start the Commonwealth games. The Tall Ferns thrashed Malaysia 86-44.  A total team effort.  Cocks lead the way with 15 points, along with Stockill who scored 13. Charlisse Leger-Walker   scored nine points from 4/13 shooting and also grabbed 5 rebounds, and handled her first international game well. Standout player though had to be Purcell, grabbing 12 massive boards,  she is the key for a medal for the Tall Ferns. The shooting stats are below.  Cocks 15pts 6/17 35%  Stockill 13pts 4/4 100%  Edmonson 11 pts 3/9 33% Palvast 9 Pts 3/8 38% Walker 9 pts 4/13 31% Hunter 8 pts 3/7 43% Taylor 6 pts 2/8 25% Bygate 6 Pts 2/2 100% Every game for the Tall Ferns, now get harder and harder. The semi which should be against England or Canada may be a step too far, but if we can improve our field goal percentage which isnt brilliant, we should at least be playing for a Bronze medal, which will be a fantastic achievement. Which...

Dana Johannsen 2018's version of 1978's Brendan Telfer

Image
Meet 2018's version of Brendan Telfer, her name is Dana Johannsen, she used to be nzherald's main sports reporter she is now with Fairfax's  stuff's  website. If you would like to compare her to any other Journo, Brendan Telfer would be the one, like Brendan Telfer she has a history of lying about certain sports, and totally ignoring others. Bredan Telfer was the Journo who loved to tell the NZ public that Netball was this global sport. He loved to mock League calling the league world cup worthless, while cheering on any world cup victory in Netball, he would state Rugby is huge, league is nothing, yet wouldn't make the true comparison  with Netball and Basketball. Today stuff's, Dana Johannsen did this piece on how Netball which has long been the number one sport for girls is under threat from other sports, Rugby in particular, but she mentioned other sports as well are challenging Netball in New Zealand for girls. Yet, she didnt mention the main threat and tha...
